CIMdata Online Polls

CIMdata is now featuring online polls with real time reporting on our web site at http://www.cimdata.com/polls/polls.html. Each week the results of the previous poll will be included in the CIMdata PLM Industry Summary to help you stay on top of trends in the PLM industry.

Take a moment to visit the site and vote on our current poll.

The results for the last opinion poll are:

CIMdata’s latest opinion poll was developed to gauge the current level of adoption and future potential use of mobile devices within the context of an organization’s product lifecycle management (PLM) environment. As indicated by the responses, almost half of those who participated in the poll indicated that they feel that mobile devices are great and that they are in the early stages of be adopting within their PLM environment. This is very promising and clearly indicates that adoption is well underway. Approximately, thirty percent (30%) of the poll’s participants indicated that they also feel that mobile devices are great but that they will not be adopted within their PLM environment any time soon. This suggests that the future adoption and use of mobile devices within organizations’ PLM environment could continue to increase. Finally, it should noted that almost ninety percent (90%) of the poll’s participants indicated that they believe that mobile devices are great and they have a role in today’s and/or tomorrow’s PLM environments.

This opinion poll confirms CIMdata’s view of the need and applicability of mobile devices in today’s PLM environments. We have already seen the use of these devices in various industries where product data is needed in the field for maintenance and operations support. We are also seeing companies in multiple industries starting to apply PLM-enabled mobile devices to deliver product data to the factory floor in the support of machine operation and assembly instructions. The future of mobile devices as a data delivery device in a PLM context appears to be very bright and we expect their use to increase significantly over the next three to five years.

NOTE: The results of these polls are anecdotal, not scientific.
