The results of this poll are rather disappointing given the importance of product cost to competitive marketing. The poll shows that very few companies are actually employing Design to Cost techniques during product development. However, among companies with whom CIMdata consults, lowering product cost remains a major competitive marketing strategy. One that is given plenty of emphasis by business planners, but apparently is not actually taken very seriously by product development organizations.
