CIMdata PLM Market Analysis 2010 Report "Actuals through 2009, Forecasts through 2014"

Table of Contents (PDF, 64KB) | Datasheet (PDF, 42KB)

The CIMdata 2010 PLM Market Analysis Report presents CIMdata’s analysis of the 2009 PLM market. Through more than 230 pages, including more than 200 tables and charts, it identifies and analyzes 2009 market trends, and reviews investments in PLM-related software and services for the overall PLM market as well as for the major sub-segments. The report also provides CIMdata’s forecasts of PLM investments for 2010 through 2014. The forecasts are based on data available through the first quarter of 2010. Additionally, CIMdata’s estimates of 2009 revenue performance of the various suppliers to the PLM market and its sub-segments are presented and discussed. CIMdata’s PLM market analysis provides two perspectives on PLM:

  • Comprehensive PLM - covers the full product definition over the entire product lifecycle, and across all industries. This includes mechanical, electronic, and software components, as well as both discrete and process industries.
  • Mainstream PLM - covers a subset of the Comprehensive PLM market, but includes the subsectors that have traditionally been addressed by the major suppliers (i.e., drivers) of the PLM market.

The CIMdata 2010 PLM Market Analysis Report comes in two (2) modules:

  • Module 1 - presents CIMdata’s overview of the PLM market, areas of PLM evolution, market investment statistics through 2009, and forecasts of investments for 2010 through 2014 for each of the major PLM sectors and sub-sectors. It also includes an analysis of PLM suppliers’ performance in 2009.
  • Module 2 - builds on the information presented in Module 1 by providing detailed geographic and industry revenue results through 2009 and forecasts for 2010 to 2014. It contains analysis of the market by geographic theaters (Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific), regions and sectors within each theater, and by multiple industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, electronics, fabrication and assembly, process, energy, shipbuilding, etc.

The PLM Market Analysis Report is sold as a stand-alone report or as part of the CIMdata PLM Community Membership.

CIMdata Online Polls

CIMdata is now featuring online polls with real time reporting on our web site at http://www.cimdata.com/polls/polls.html. Each week the results of the previous poll will be included in the CIMdata PLM Industry Summary to help you stay on top of trends in the PLM industry.

Take a moment to visit the site and vote on our current poll.

The results for the last opinion poll are:

23% of respondents continue to execute at least half of their design work in 2D. This would not be surprising if the responses were representative of global practice. We know that a lot of design on a worldwide basis is still done using 2D drawings (note that 2D design can be quite appropriate for certain situations such as basic turned parts). The interesting factor in this survey is that almost 1/3 of respondents report that they do ALL of their design in 3D. This indicates that many organizations are abandoning 2D altogether. We can only assume that these are companies that design products at the higher end of the product complexity scale.

A follow on question is to understand how many companies continue to use drawings to communicate their design work to manufacturing and to their partners. We will pose this question in a future poll.

NOTE: The results of these polls are anecdotal, not scientific.
